Obam's belated anguishing over the Bin Laden decision

In 2007, then-candidate Barack Obama made it clear what he would do as president if he learned that Osama bin Laden was hiding in Pakistan and that U.S. forces had a chance to take him out:

“If we have actionable intelligence about high-value terrorist targets and (Pakistani) President Musharraf won’t act, we will.”

It is curious then that Obama in a self-congratulatory gesture has tried to act as if this action, which he had already promised during his campaign, was an agonizing one instead of  a matter of merely keeping his promise. automatically as anyone in his position would have done.

Some say Panetta made the decsion before Obama was recalled from the golf course.  Valerie Jarrett is notably absent from the photo now being bandied about as well she should be since she had argued at length against such action and her views were one of the sources of Obama's vacillation.  The Go Code should havw been automatic once Bin Laden's location was identified.   Instead Jarrett continued to argue against action becuase she thought Obama's re-election chances might be damaged if the mission failed like the Carter mission in Iran.
